Finding the right school for your child
We understand this is a big decision
Finding the right school for a child with disability can feel like a complex and emotional journey. You might be navigating diagnostic reports, exploring different educational settings, or hearing different opinions about what's best for your child. We want you to know — you're not alone, and there is no single "right" answer. The best school is the one where your child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn.
Questions to consider when choosing a school:
- Does the school have experience with my child's specific needs?
- What is the staff-to-student ratio?
- How are learning goals set and reviewed?
- What allied health and wellbeing supports are available?
- How does the school communicate with families?
- What does the transition process look like — both into the school and beyond it?
- Does my child need a specialist setting, or a mainstream school with adjustments?
